Jane glanced over her shoulder as she squeezed between the gap in the junkyard fence. She didn't want to be followed again. The last time she had been sure that she'd be tagged for trespassing. She didn't even want to be in the scrap yard as it was, but the rain drove her to the largely abandoned building on the edge of the junkyard.

Eiron put the end of his flashlight in his mouth and he struggled with the rusted out hulk of an old truck. Getting the hood wrestled up, he propped it open with a pipe that had been sitting next to him. It had been some time since he'd come out here to salvage parts. And what a wonderful night he'd chosen to do it, with the rain falling around him. He leaned under the hood and began tinkering with something, the flashlight now in one hand.

Once Jane was through she quickly ducked out of sight. Usually no one would be here. She glanced at the road one more time to make sure no one was out there before moving further into the scrapyard. She pulled her jacket closed and set off at a light jog for the main building. It was just her luck to have forgotten her umbrella. The newspaper had even said to expect rain and what did she do? The overhang would give her the chance to enjoy the night without getting chilled. “Good thing I didn’t bring a book,” she muttered to herself as she ran.

There was a tinkering of steel from Eiron's pocket as his hand slipped in and back out with a handful of wrenches. He set them on the edges of the hood and jumped up under the hood, shielding himself from the rain as he worked under the hood. He grumbled to himself under his breath about something or another just as wet foot slipped on the steel and he knocked all his tools in to the engine compartment, creating a great racket that rang out across the yard. With a sigh, he began to paw around in the dark, attempting to find his tools.

The building was well in sight when Jane heard the clattering of metal on metal surprisingly nearby. She jumped at the sound and would have slipped into the mud if she wouldn't have been startled into diving into the shadows. She was disoriented by the change in surroundings for only a couple of moments. She quickly regained her bearings, her sense of direction was usually the first thing to go, and took a moment to collect herself. She hadn't ever been a fan of the fact that she tended to lose control of her abilities when she was startled. A few seconds saw her re-emerge from the shadow of a Volkswagen looked cautiously first one way, then the other to make sure that no one was coming.
"I should just go the the main building. Whoever that was won't see me over there anyway,", she thought. Her curiosity got the better of her. She couldn't help but wonder who else would be at a scrapyard at three in the morning with weather like this. She took a breath and dropped back into the shadows. They wouldn't hear her coming, and if they looked up they probably wouldn't see her. She weaved from shadow to shadow only needing to pop back out once when the path was broken.

Most of the tools were recovered in a fairly short time as he rummaged for them, creating a huge racket. Sitting back on his heels, Eiron counted all the wrenches to make sure he had all of them. Coming up one short, he swore aloud and began shining the light down around the engine. Every so faintly he caught a glimpse of a reflection from the stainless steel. Seeing how far in it was, he sighed and laid down across the top of the engine, his arm disappearing in to the compartment up to his shoulder. There was a sliding sound and a soft plop as the wrench slid out and in to the mud under the truck. "Of course. I brave the elements to get out here and pull a part, and the wrench drops in the worst part of the entire yard."

Jane reached the source of the sound just in time to see a young man grumbling to himself as he reached into a truck. She ducked down further when she saw the flashlight beam. She'd already spent the better part of a two nights nursing a flashlight burn this summer and didn't relish the idea of doing that again. She couldn't make out what he was saying, but it was clear that he was irritated about something. The source of his frustration was immediately apparent when she caught sight of the wrench sitting squarely beneath the truck. She bit her lip. On one hand she wanted to help him. It would be easy for her to reach the wrench. On the other...she eyed the flashlight warily. Perhaps it would be best for her to stay put. She should just let him do his thing anyway.
She turned to leave only to slip in the mud and slam her shoulder into the car she was hiding behind. Fortunately no alarm went off. She hastily got to her feet and peeked at the man with the tool problems. Maybe he hadn't heard her?

Eiron had just been about to reach around the engine to see if he could touch the wrench on the ground when he heard a loud thud a short distance away from him. His head jolted up to see where the noise was coming from, and caught a glimpse of someone standing close by before his head collided with the hood of the truck. There was another loud thud as his head hit, and the pipe that had been holding up the hood fell towards him, hitting him in another spot on his head. At this point, he chose to curl in to a ball, which served him no good as the hood fell without the support of the pipe and crashed in to his back. Complete silence blanketed the area for a few moments before he mumbled out from under the hood, "Ow."
He fumbled around with his hand until it found the edge of the hood and very slowly pushed it upwards until he could look back up. Grabbing the pipe that had slid in to the crook between his neck and shoulder, he propped the hood back up and sat back on his heels. He shook his head and looked down at the ground, realizing that he had also dropped his flashlight next to the wrench. It was then that he remembered the figure that had originally made a noise and he whipped his head around to look. The momentum of his head spinning caused his entire world to spin for a second as he caught sight of them again, and he put his hand out to catch himself. Blinking quickly, he managed to stutter out, "Can... Can I help you?"

Jane smiled nervously. "So much for that." She swallowed nervously eyeing the flashlight under the truck. At least he couldn't reach it without her knowing. She hesitantly stepped more into view of the unfortunate mechanic and pulled her jacket more tightly closed.
"Eheh, uhm. No. I just. I was out for a walk. I didn't expect anyone else out here at this hour, and well. I was just sort of trying to figure out who you were..." she trailed off awkwardly forcing a smile, that really would have looked more like a grimace on a brighter night, and swiped her hand over the mud that no doubt caked her pants.

Eiron reached up and touched the goose eggs that had already sprouted from the top of his head and while still keeping an eye on her, "Oh, I um... I'm a mechanic that works at the shop out front. I was working on a uh... a uh... personal project, when I realized I was missing a part."
His arm fell to his side as he finished evaluating the painful knots and began to climb down from the engine compartment of the truck. There was a slight plopping sound as his boots hit the mud and he stood upright, turning so he was fully face the voice in the shadows, "What um... what about you? What are you doing out here? The only girl that works here is Kelly, and you sure don't sound like her. You're not...." He swallowed nervously, "You're not some criminal are you? Listen, if you're out here dealing drugs or something, I didn't see anything!"
There was yet another clattering noise as his hand pawed around the front of the vehicle, reaching for his wrenches and shoving them back in his pockets.

"Shop?" Her brow wrinkled at the thought. She'd been through this scrapyard over a hundred times and had only ever run into two people in all that time. One of them was a security guard that she only barely managed to avoid, and the other tried to buy drugs from her. Jane watched as the man finagled his way out of the truck and ducked down slightly as his boots hit the ground. She was pretty sure that she could still see the flashlight under the truck, but there was no knowing if he had a cellphone light on him or something.
If she wouldn't have been so anxious she might have laughed at the question. Did she really seem that shady?
"No-no, I'm not a criminal or anything sketchy like that. I... Uhhh, well you see I was out for a walk...and then this rain happened," Jane tried to sound reassuring, but she was about seventy percent sure that she just sounded like a freaked out dweeb. She could hear the clattering and see the man reaching around, but she really couldn't tell if he was only grabbing his tools.
She swallowed nervously and felt herself sink into the shadow beneath her. Just enough to drop quickly if she needed to.
"Is that wreck really a shop?" she blurted. If it was she had definitely been trespassing there regularly.

"Oh."
He left his hand in his pocket as he shoved the last wrench in, looking slightly relieved that she wasn't a criminal. There was a slight awkward silence as he pondered for a moment, which was interrupted by her odd statement. His head dipped slightly as reached up and scratched the back of his head, accidentally scratching the newly formed goosebumps and making him flinch, "Yeah, it's a shop. It doesn't look like much, but they let me do my work in peace. Not many people know I work here since I typically don't leave the shop, and even then only at night."
He gestured back towards it, "Well uh... If you want to get out of the rain, you can come inside for a bit. The power's out, but I have some candles stashed."

She nodded to herself. No wonder she'd never seen him around. That still didn't cover the fact that the building was almost always a total mess. She had always thought that they'd gone out of business.
As soon as he offered she opened her mouth to object but stopped. With the power out she would be safe inside. It would be drier for sure. Not that she had spare clothes with her, but the idea of having company for a change was a welcome prospect. True, she didn't know him, but if he turned out to be a danger she could always escape. No one would believe him if he said that a girl disappeared into the floor.
"Yeah, thanks. That would be great," she said stepping up out of the shadow she'd sunk into. She edged her way around the car she had been hidden behind and waved lamely.
"I'm Jane by the way."

Eiron returned her awkward wave and offered an even more awkward smile that looked more like a grimace than anything, "My name is Eiron. Not, like, with two As though. It's E I. My moms thought it was 'modern'."
He shook his head and started walking back towards the shop. It was a good thing no one else actually worked at the shop besides him, or he'd have to explain why he'd gone out to pull parts and returned with a girl. A girl... coming in to the shop... that was extremely cluttered and messy... He actually grimaced this time and swallowed nervously, "I uh... hope you don't mind the mess in the shop. I do a lot of work and I tend not to put things back. It's what people like to call an organized mess."
When he finally reached the front of the building, he grasped the edge of a very large piece of corrugated steel and pulled on it hard, large squeals coming from the overly burdened track at the top of the door, "Um... Ladies first? The door is kind of a pain to close."

Jane snorted quietly. What was with people and weird spellings anyway? Though she had to admit, just about anything would be better than Jane. It made her think of old people.
"I'm pretty sure my parents were going for as average of a name as they could think of form me," she laughed.
After a moment of hesitation Jane fell in a couple of steps behind Eiron. Her face warmed when she realized that she had apparently been hanging out in this guy's stuff off and on for the last year or so. She coughed once to try to loosen the tightness in her chest.
"I'm sure it's no biggie. I'm not super neat myself."
She watched as he pried open the door that she herself had never opened. She'd always assumed that it just didn't work and forced herself not to tell him that the side window wasn't very high off the ground and opened rather nicely. She looked at Eiron with a small smile and nodded before ducking through the doorway. Her eyes immediately went to the desk that she normally sat on when she came here to read or draw. It was about as dark as usual in the building.
"Guess that's one good thing about these powers," she thought to herself.
"So this is the shop huh?"

"I mean, at least mine sounds average, but every time I try to give my name over the phone or something..." He mimicked shooting himself and rolled his eyes.
The wheels on the door squealed again as he got the door to grind shut with a resounding thud. He set out across the floor of the shop, stepping over objects left and right as if he didn't even need to see in the shop. Coming up front of a steel cupboard that hung from the wall crooked, he pried open the door and retrieved a handful of candles. They made an odd thumping noise as he set them on top of his toolbox, which he opened next and grabbed a small handheld torch. With a click, a flame sprung from it and Eiron lit the first candle. Shutting the torch off with another click, he dropped it in the toolbox and slammed the drawer shut, then gathered up the rest of the candles and began walking across the shop, depositing them at random intervals and lighting them from the first one.
Once he reached the back of the shop, he started walking up a set of rickety steel stairs, "My uh... living quarters are up here. If you want, I might half like... an extra set of coveralls you could borrow if you wanted to get out of those wet clothes."
